Senior Quantity Surveyor
Purpose of the Role
An established and reputable main contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Colchester. This is a full-time, on-site position offering the chance to take ownership of commercial and financial management across a diverse portfolio of projects.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards. With a strong pipeline across healthcare, education, and commercial sectors, this role offers both variety and long-term career progression.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare accurate cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts
Lead on cost planning, cost control, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle
Prepare, manage, and review Bills of Quantities (BOQs)
Monitor expenditures and manage project budgets effectively
Oversee subcontractor procurement, negotiation, and payments
Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, and project teams
Provide clear, concise financial advice and reporting to stakeholders
What's Required
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally at senior level
Strong background in cost management, cost control, and cost planning
Experience preparing BOQs and delivering detailed cost reporting
Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills
Strong communication and negotiation abilities
Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field
Professional accreditation such as MRICS (or working towards it) is advantageous
Previous experience within healthcare, education, or commercial construction sectors highly desirable
